It's January first and that marks the beginning of new things! Its a brand new year, and for me its the year of yarnmonster!
Last February I went full time with yarnmonster and the growth I've seen with my small business humbled me to my core. I am so grateful to every person who has supported me and my passion of creating. The fact that I can keep sewing and continuing to create this year excites me to no end!
Jack and I sat down many times last year to discuss what it would take for me to continue working full time for yarnmonster in 2019, and of course it always comes down to one thing: Can we make ends meet? Well, here I am in 2019 not only continuing with my small business but continuing to pour my heart and soul into it every day.
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed I went quiet for the entire month of December, and part of that was because we were out of town, but mostly because I was pouring ALL of my energy into building this site! I've known for awhile that I wanted to move away from Etsy as my main platform and have a website that I could customize, and that would really reflect what yarnmonster is. And honestly, that Etsy fee increase that happened a few months back hit me hard.
Let me take a second to say that I LOVE Etsy! Its a wonderful platform, (I shop on it all the time) and my Etsy shop will remain open! Etsy is a wonderful marketplace for new people to find us makers. However, most of my yarnmonster customers already know of me, and Etsy's amazing Statistics Tracker shows me that most of my sales are from people visiting from Instagram. So if I can direct people from my Instagram account directly into my website, I'm not losing revenue to Etsy's new fee increases, and the money that would have gone to fees gets fed back into yarnmonster, meaning more products, more innovations, and expanding to items I'm dying to make (hint, enamel pins and stitch markers)! So its a no-brainer to build a website where I can personalize every feature, make it look how I want, and even have a blog page that I've always low key wanted to create, right?
So thats where I disappeared to during the month of December. I'm going to take a second to pat myself on the back for this, because it takes a whole lot more work than I ever imagined. I even learned how to do basic coding to get my dream website! I impressed myself. I hope the site impresses upon you too, because I worked damn hard on it!
So here is to the year of the yarnmonster! Thats my new mantra, fueling my 12 hour sewing days, my planning time, and every creative step I take. This year I am going to sew my heart out, design beautiful and function bags, sketch out every enamel idea that pops into my head, and knit all the things!
I hope you're ready for 2019, because I sure am! Happy New year!!
Love from, the yarnmonster.
